Letter: Deighton’s Mexico morsel is too much to swallow

In his tribute to Len Deighton (“A taste for deception and self-delusion”, Books, Life & Arts, FT Weekend, October 9), Mark Mazower is right to stress the delicious culinary details in the novels. I just wish I could forget the one in Mexico Set that somewhat dims Deighton’s foodie credentials by dismissing Mexican cuisine as “fiery stodge”.

Too sweeping a judgment for my taste.
