Letter: Trump’s ‘Truth Social’ is like that old Soviet joke

Donald Trump’s announcement (“Trump to launch social media platform to compete with Twitter and Facebook”, Report, FT.com, October 21) of his plans to launch a social media platform, Truth Social, hints at his admiration for Vladimir Putin and all things Russian.

The former Soviet Union had two newspapers representing the views of the government and the communist party — Izvestia (The News) and Pravda (The Truth). Respect for their integrity was summarised by cynical Muscovites in a popular joke: no truth in The News and no news in The Truth. So we know what to expect from Truth Social.
