Letter: Impact giving is for shrewd donors, not for Scrooges

Perhaps the reported “decline in generosity” of this country’s philanthropists (Report, December 16) in fact reflects a greater sense of purpose. The motivation to give seems increasingly concerned with the donor questioning how much of a difference a gift will make. Impact giving demands charities commit to clear accountabilities. The largest gifts follow exacting assessments. Perhaps our most generous are not so much “Scrooge-like” as simply shrewd.
