Letter: Crypto investor misses the point about sustainability

Michael Novogratz, owner of Galaxy Digital, is missing the point (“Galaxy Digital launches sustainability programme to fix bitcoin’s dirty image”, Interview, February 4).

While it is true that increasing the proportion of renewable energy employed in bitcoin mining is good for the environment, it is equally true that, as we know all too well in the UK, there is a global energy crisis which shows few signs of abating.

It would surely be better if the renewable energy employed, for example by Galaxy Global, were put to better use elsewhere.
