Here’s how to DIY the “dipped” furniture trend

dipped furniture

This “dipped furniture” look DIY project is a great way to add some flare to an otherwise simple piece of furniture. In this episode of ITK: Furniture Flip, our host and DIY expert Bre Bringier (@redesignbybre) shows us how to do this trend yourself, using an antique dresser as an example.

“A dip look is when the top half is different from the bottom half,” Bre explains. To give her dresser a makeover, Bre uses some wood trim for texture on the bottom half and paints each portion a different color. Here’s how she transforms her dresser with the dipped furniture technique:

Tools

  • Cleaner
  • Sander
  • 220-grit sandpaper
  • Circular saw
  • Paint roller
  • Drill
  • Wood glue
  • Wood trim
  • Green paint
  • White paint
  • Drawer knobs

Instructions

1. Start by cleaning the antique dresser with water to remove any dirt or dust. Then, remove any drawer knobs or hardware.

2. Use the sander to give the dresser an allover scuff sand. Wipe off the sanding dust using a towel.

3. Paint the bottom two-thirds of the dresser with the green paint using the paint roller. Then, paint the top section with the white paint.

4. Using the wood glue, glue the wood trim pieces to the bottom drawers to add texture.

5. Once the wood glue has dried, paint the trim in green paint.

6. Attach drawer knobs to the top drawers.
