Leslie Felperin describes the excited atmosphere on the Faroe Islands at the first screening of the new James Bond, due to scenes being filmed there (“A brush with Bond”, Travel, Life & Arts, FT Weekend, October 9).
At the 2012 Edinburgh premiere of Chariots of Fire, the whole audience sat enraptured right through to the end of the credits. They, like my husband, had been extras in the scenes filmed in Edinburgh and had brought along friends and family to admire their acting debuts.
However, the most fun bit was the opening sequence when the runners pound along a beach and then cut off across a golf course. The original film had a caption “Broadstairs, Kent” which was the cue for howls of laughter from the Scottish audience as they recognised St Andrews. Oddly enough the caption is not on our DVD!
