Letter: Nostalgia for the carefree era of published pay scales

The armed forces and the clearing banks, and probably many other organisations, used to grade all appointments with an appropriate published pay scale (“Pay disclosure: secrets and lies”, Lex, November 22)

There was no distinction between the pay of male and female employees of a specific rank or grade. We all knew roughly what our colleagues were paid, and no one cared much about it.
