Drew Afualo is making the internet a safer place for women one TikTok at a time — but she’s not stopping there.

The popular content creator, who first started to blow up online after she started calling out men who posted misogynistic and bigoted videos on TikTok, has expanded the breadth of her reach to include a forthcoming book and a Spotify exclusive podcast called The Comment Section. On her podcast, she’s spent the last year and a half welcoming on fellow creators to go deeper into issues they care about, something that can be difficult to do on the short-form video app that first garnered her attention.

For the latest episode of In The Know by Yahoo’s interview series We Should Talk, Drew opened up about her strategy of combating bigotry online and why it works so well, why having her own podcast has been so beneficial for the discourse she seeks to have with her peers, when she first realized that she could make people laugh, her experience at Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour this summer and so much more.

“The biggest reason [why my method works] would be the study that I reference a lot, which is that researchers surveyed 100 men and 100 women, and they asked them what their greatest fear is. For women, it was being murdered. For men, it was being humiliated. That’s why it works. I think that men who feel so boldly as to platform bigoted ideals and find them funny obviously fall under that umbrella of men whose biggest fear is being humiliated,” Drew told In The Know. “The reason why [my method] works and why I’ve been able to garner an audience is because I have put them on the spot. I don’t let them defend themselves, and I don’t debate with them. I just humiliate them. It doesn’t change them — I mean, maybe it has, but I doubt it — but the overarching theme is that it humiliates them to the point where they don’t want to do it anymore.”
