Why this NYC Pilates instructor loves keeping busy each morning

New York City-based Pilates instructor and student Brenda (@_brendasolomon) manages to journal, study and stretch before she starts her work day. In this episode of ITK: First 15 Minutes, Brenda takes us through the first 15 minutes of her day to show us how she fits everything into her morning routine.

After waking up at 5:30 a.m., Brenda starts her day by reading an affirmation note card and journaling in her Bible verse journal. Next, she heads to the bathroom to brush her teeth and do her skin care routine with vitamin C and sunscreen.

“One of the reasons that I love teaching Pilates is because I love the energy,” Brenda says as she applies her skin care products. “The clients are great, my coworkers are amazing and we all just encourage each other, we motivate each other. And it’s not just about Pilates, it’s really just about being the best version of yourself and carrying that with you even after class.”

Brenda then heads to the kitchen to eat her breakfast: Overnight oats that she pre-prepared. Since she is currently a Master’s student pursuing a career in dermatology at the University of Miami, Brenda studies while eating her oats.

Between her classwork, teaching Pilates classes and studying for the MCAT, Brenda doesn’t have much free time — which she doesn’t mind at all. “I feel super blessed and grateful that my schedule is busy with the things I want to do,” Brenda says.

Once she’s finished breakfast, Brenda gets dressed and returns to the kitchen with her yoga mat to stretch. She says that since space is limited in her NYC home, the kitchen is actually the best place to spread out.

Finally, Brenda spritzes on perfume, throws on her sneakers and heads out the door to start her day.
